Sa Foradada,
landscape intervention.
Sa Foradada is a peninsula of the Sierra de Tramuntana World Heritage Site in Mallorca which is located in the municipality of Deià. It receives this name from the hole it has from side to side at the top.
To get to its small cove a small downhill trip is designed.
To get to its small cove a small downhill trip is designed.
It is quite common to arrive, swim and climb to the extreme, but due to its height it generates a certain danger, making it impossible to reach the hole. Therefore, the project focuses on the ability to enjoy this wonder of nature, at the same time become the risk a sport.
LOCALIZATION AND STARTING POINT OF THE PROJECT
Climbing in Mallorca began to take place in the 70s. Since then it has been a very popular sport on the island. In this project it plays an important role since the route that is proposed is aimed at people interested in this modality.
The route, which begins on the inner side of the peninsula and ends up going up the outside, ends with an element that constitutes the goal of who scales.
Said element constitutes a ring of steel profile cut with a discreet and fine web covering its area. This allows you to enjoy a sensation similar to that of floating in the middle of the sea.
Above all the willingness was to preserve and maintain the spectacular and unique view offered by this outgoing. It is a place very appreciated and respected by all the islanders so it would be a mistake to deform it.
DETECTIONS OF THE INTERVENED SPACE
By observing, studying and remembering this space, a series of problems have been detected whose solutions have been translated into an active design proposal.
The problems are summarized in the difficulty that exists to reach the hole that is at the tip of the peninsula. To which only professionals can get through mountaineering techniques.
The goal has been to reduce this difficulty without eliminating it, since the charm of this place lies in the aspiration to reach this opening.
Once this has been decided, a list of objectives has been followed that have gradually defined the nature of the project:

-
Damage as little as possible the area of action to not leave defects in the natural surface of space.
-
Keep the appearance without changing the personality of the place.
-
Create a visual effect for the people who perform the activity and another for those who observe, in order to create a visual spectacle intertwined with the space.
-
Human intervention. The active position of the athletes is paramount, since with their performance, the place becomes closer and more accessible.
LANDSCAPE PROPOSAL
The proposal is based on the design of cantilevered steps bolted to the ledge, surrounding it creating a path.
These rungs, made of corten steel, at the same time act as grippers. In this way, at the same time that one supports the foot, it is held with the rope that hangs from the next stump, thus solving both actions with a single element.

The route turns the peninsula from south to north, reaching the hole through the face exposed to the sea.
Once here, it is entered by a cylinder also made of steel corten, the same size as the hole itself. This remains as free as possible of the rock and in its area is woven a spider's web that simulates in its drawing the sunset from that point.
